Wiring Issue

An exterior wall outlet was installed and connected to a box in the drop ceiling which powers deck lighting. A switch connected to this box was always in the off position (the deck lighting still worked). I have since connected wires to the same power source for an exterior wall outlet. The only way the exterior wall outlet gets power is for the switch located in the house to remain in the on position. I hate to leave the switch in the on position. Is there any way to run it so that the switch does not control the power supplied to the exterior outlet?

How many wires and cables are present in the switch box?
