my ceiling light won't work

I took down an old florecent light fixture and I tried to replace it with a new light fixture but for some reason the new fixtures will not work on the wiring where the old light fixture was. I moved the new light fixtures to other wiring (black/white/ground) and they work fine. Does anyone have an idea why my wiring where (black/white/ground) the old light fixture was (working fine before I took the old fixture down) would suddenly stop working?

Are those the only three wires in the box or are there more you didn't mention. Was the old florescent light fixture working when you took it down? Have you checked the switch?

Have you determined whether current is flowing in the wiring where the old fixture was? I use a non-contact detector that starts beeping when you hold it near a live conductor, even through the plastic insulation.
