6 watt indicator light

My cellar light switch when turned on also turns on a small 6watt indicator light in a box on the opposite side of the cellar door to let you know the cellar light is on. For some reason all of a sudden when you turn the cellar light on the bulb blows.I have cleaned the bulb holder and cleaned the box hoping it was a ground but that has not helped. I don't understand why the circuit does not trip when this happens. Any Ideas on this problem?

What kind of bulb? Is this a 120v bulb? Just to eliminate the obvious are you sure the bulb you are using is correct. Did you try more then one bulb? You might try buying a bulb from a different place. Once bought a 6 pack of regular light bulb and every one of them blew in a few seconds. Wasn't the fixture just bad bulbs. Circuit wouldn't trip just because a bulb blew.
