Default How can I wire this with the least amount of wire?

I am trying to wire this with the least amount of wire. The junction box is located near the light one side of the room and the switch is located on the other side of the room. I am using a Duplex switch.

Cables are labeled 1, 2, and 3. As you can see for #3, I don't really have a place for the neutral wire to go. Since the vent is located near the switch, I would rather not have to run 2 wires to the switch.

Any suggestions?

The device(s) at the top of the diagram are missing. What's up there?

Use a radio-controlled switch for the light fixture. Similar to what many ceiling fans come with now.

The top is a junction box, not shown.

I may just relocate the junction box near the light switch and do this

As you've figured out, you need a neutral at the switch one way or another to get it to the light and the vent.

You could use the first drawing, but make cable 2 a 14/3 (or 12/3) to get the neutral at the switch.
