Did your old switch have 2 or 3 screws on it? How many wires were hooked to your old switch? Does this switch only control one thing?

You have to keep in your mind the OP is not in the North America at all that OP is From Aussie area so the wiring format will be diffrent than what we useally see in the North America side.

To OP., Is your switch is single pole or two way { 3 way NA's term }

And I am pretty sure you got switch loop there so therefore you have to wired it as normal single pole format.

I have several friends in Australia. I'm trying to figure out if it's a single pole or a 3 way. I'm also thinking it's a single pole but would like him to respone.
