Box extenders Q

Does a box extender increases the box fill?
Extenders for 4'' octogonal boxes have 15 Cu in volume so I m wondering if I can add this volume to the box for fill purposes
Thank you

Yes, sort of like a plaster ring, but only the volume equated by the measurements of the extender.

You are speaking of the extension that simply looks like the box you are mounting it on with the back removed, yes?

If so, the displacement should be listed on the ext.

If not, the ext can be calculated but rather than do that, here is the code listings of box displacement for a 4" round/octagonal

4X1 1/4 12.5 c.i.

4X1 1/2 15.5 c.i.

4X2 1/8 21.5 c.i.

the dimensions for the rings are the same

The ring is most likely a 1 1/2" ring.
