Adding an outlet to a switched circuit

Hi, I have an outdoor light on a switched circuit, I want to add an outlet from the lamp holder box of the light. Is there a way to do this so that the switch for the light does not control the outlet?

It depends on what wires are available at the light box, what you intend to use the receptacle for and what else is on this circuit. Please let us know the details.

There are two wires, 1-black, 1-white, the outlet will be on a deck, occasional use, there are two other lights on the circuit.

Sorry, you do not have enough wires to get unswitched power from that box.

Yes, it will be switched. Is there a receptacle in the house on the same wall near where you want the outside receptacle?
