motor - capacitor

I bought a motor (for intermittent use running an attic fan) that uses a 15 mfd 370VAC start capacitor. I have a spare 7 mfd 370VAC capacitor. Any problem seeing if this spare capacitor will start the motor ? or am I being penny wise & pound foolish? thanks Mark

The farads of the replacement capacitor should be within about 10% of the old one, so I think your 7μF is too small to do the job correctly. It would probably work to check the motor out if all you're interested in is a quick test to see if it spins, but I'd get the right size cap for continued use.

It's to low and I would buy the correct one. 10 to $15 at the most.
