Drilling Mistake

I drilled to close to the stud's edge and have a little less than 1 1/4'' .
Can I glue a piece of dowel in the hole and re-drill a new hole through it ?
Thank you

You can do that or just drill another a little higher or lower than that one and leave the oops alone.

Why do you need to re-drill the hole? Put a steel plate infront of the hole on the face of the stud.

''Yeah, sounds like a job for nail plates.''

The side of the wall where the plate would be required is plaster/lath, the holes in the stud are close to the top and plaster crown moulding behind .No problem re-drilling
Thanks again
