How to extend leads into Jbox?

I am installing a fixture in an old house and needed to install a new Jbox. The problem is that the wiring leads do not quite make it long enough to go inside the box. How can i extend these without weakening the line?

If the leads won't reach you will need to install a second Jbox and extend new leads from there... That Jbox must remain accessible. If you can get an inch or so in the box you can splice on longer leads. Best (opinion) is to run new cable at least back to the last box before the short cable.

you can also sometimes shift the new box up or down a bit on the wall so the wires are long enough. It will require a bit of sheetrock patching, but it's often easier than re-running the wire.
