Continuous feed to unattached garage

I am building a 30 X 40 unattached garage. The garage is approximately 40' from the house. I am installing a 50A service for this garage as it will be used only for vehicles and as a storage facility. I have #6 underground at a depth of 24".
I may have shorted myself somewhat on the wire and am wondering if I can install a junction box either in the basement ceiling (with access through a drop ceiling) or in the garage below the panel? Or do I need to install a continuous supply line?

Thanks

A Jbox will be fine. I'd put it in the garage where it is more obvious.
