Main breaker keeps tripping

The last two days my main keeps tripping. I have replaced it with a new one, it still trips. No other breakers are tripping. My A/C breaker did trip once yesterday. What could make my main keep Tripping?

Are you exceeding the current limit?

It's quite rare for breakers to go bad. As Ben mentioned, you're most likely pulling more current than the panel/subpanel is wired to handle.

A few questions to possibly narrow down the problem:
- What is the size of the main breaker? (60/100A?)
- Approximately how old is your panel?
- Was anything recently added or changed? Additional circuits, new AC, etc?
- Is this the only panel in your house? or is this a subpanel with a main panel somewhere else?
