Number 8 AWG wire and a 40 ampere circuit breaker. You will need a local disconnect if the heater is more than 50 feet from the panel or not in direct line of sight of the panel.

Red face

Thanks Luana! You mentioned a local disconnect. Do I install the double 40 breaker at both the main panel and the local disconnect? Also the directions only call for two hot and no neutral is that correct?

An unfused disconnect is fine. A 60 amp AC unfused disconnect is a good cheap option. No neutral is used on 240v.

Is this an attached or detached garage. If it is detached you will almost certainly need a subpanel. If attached, local code permitting*, you can use 8-2 Romex.

*If Chicago code may vary from NEC.

P.S. Glad you got your caps lock fixed. Just can't take shouting this early.
