UF Question
I think I know the answer but on the outside chance I'm wrong can UF be run overhead supported by a messenger. I'm guessing unprotected and UV will be in your condemnation but I just wanted to be sure.

Bingo! UF-B sunlight resistant. I got the cable for the perfect price so I have a project in my future. Would 1/8" plastic coated steel cable be adequate for a messenger? The distance is 20 feet. I assume the messenger should be grounded?
My DUH moment for the day. I didn't check to see if it was sunlight resistant before posting. So use to thinking of it as underground cable figured it wouldn't be.
Thank you for your help.

Yes Ray you have to ground the messenger cable in case something go wrong with UF cable and Ibpooks mention sunlight restanice that is the key word if not sunlight restanice it will break apart in pretty short time.

The 1/8" steel cable should be fine to support the UF. I would hope you don't have to worry about cable ice load on the gulf coast! Tie the messenger in with the ground at the weatherhead -- compression connectors hold up better outdoors than wirenuts.
