How much slack in NM cable in attic?

I'm running a long string of recessed lights in an attic space to be insulated with fiberglass R-38.

It seems reasonable to leave some slack in the cable between cans to allow the insulation to expand a bit. R-38 is pretty thick stuff and since there are so many lights, I'm a little worried about heat loss.

Right now, I have the cable stabled every 4 ft and within 6 inches of each can. I've been leaving about 8 inches of slack between each 4 ft section.

Is this okay?

Thanks
