I Can not figure out how my switches are wired into the outlet?

Hello,

I just bought a house and am changing the outlets and switches.

There are two switches (one on each side of the room) in my living room, I do not have any cieling mounted lights so I believe these switches control an outlet on the wall. I can not figure out how this is wired b/c the outlets are hot all the time.

Notes.

All the outlets have only black and white wires.

One outlet has the black and white and an additional orange wire.

The 1st switch has two yellow wires and an orange wire

The 2nd switch has two yellow wires and a black wire.

I assume the outlet with the additional "orange" wire is the one controlled by the switch? But it does not work.

I have replaced it with a regular switch and a three way switch with no luck.

Any help?

Welcome to the forums! It's not in the switches, so put them back like they were. If you notice on the original receptacle you removed where the orange wire is, the tab between the orange wire and black wire was broken out. This separates the top and bottom of the receptacle. Just de-energize the circuit, take a pair of needle nose pliers and break the tab off. Let us know if that handled it or not.
