AFCI trips when switching lights off???

Hey Folks,

I recently had my whole house rewired, a 200 amp panel upgrade, and added recessed lights.

The bedrooms feature AFCI breakers. One of the AFCI breakers has tripped 3 times in the last month.

The last time it tripped was when I turned a switch off???

I did a quick load calc, and everything is fine.

what could be causing this?

Switches make a small spark when they switch on or off. AFCI breakers are designed to trip when they detect sparks. Normally the spark made by a switch is too small to trip the breaker, but sometimes it happens.

I would first try replacing the switch with a new one in case the contacts are worn on the old switch. Next I would try replacing the AFCI breaker with a different one.
