Options for bathroom fan & light on 14-2? Remote?

I'd like to replace the bathroom fan and upgrade to one with a light, separately operable. Any way to do this without changing the in-wall wiring from 14-2 to 14-3?

Does anyone know of a remote-operated fan-light where you could have 14-2 powering the whole unit and then a remote to turn the fan or light off-on? Wouldn't it be nice if you could have a remote that switches the various functions at the unit, rather than at the wall box?

Thanks.

Gary

I have never seen one. The other issue would be no space in the thimble sized junction box to install it in.

If power comes in at the fan only the switch loop needs to be changed. If power comes in at the switch you could just add a 14-2 but because of limited space in fan connection box 14-3 would be better.

If there's room inside the fan housing (doubtful), I don't see why you could use a remote designed for a ceiling fan and light. It's essentially the same thing. The only potential disadvantage I could see is that the "fan dimmer" function might cause your vent fan to either not work or buzz. Might be worth a try if you really don't want to swap cables.
