Wire size

I am running additional circuits to some bedrooms in my house. I was given 3 - 100' rolls of 12/2 wire. What I would like to know is if it is permissable to use 12/2 wire on a 15 amp circuit?

Yes, you can use #12 on a 15A circuit.

Since you have the wire already just install a 20 amp breaker and get 1/3 more capacity for no additional cost.

Keep in mind that all J-boxes must fit the size of the wire, regardless of derating the circuit. If you are using old or existing boxes, they are likely too small. NEC 314.16

And a bedroom circuit may require an AFCI breaker, check local code.
