Kitchen Counter Receptacle Rule - How is it Measured

I'm planning outlets along the kitchen counter. I know the rule where at no point should there be a an outlet further than 24 inches. My question is how that is measured. From box end to box end or from the center of the receptacle?

Which means outlets can not be farther than 48" center to center from each other.

The code doesn't explicitly say, but I would go center to center. It's measured along the back edge of the countertop as if you drew a line from the center of the receptacle down then measured from the point where that line intersects the counter.

Ok, then how many outlets...

can I use on one 20A circuit? I'll need 5 receptacles on one side of the kitchen.

Counter Top Circuits

You must have a minimum of two 20 amp circuits.

I plan to use one 20A circuit for two receptacles on one side of the kitchen and one 20A circuit for five receptacles on the other side. Are 5 counter top receptacles permitted?

Your plan is acceptable. There is no maximum number of receptacles.

I prefer to split them up a little better so you don't put too many appliances on one circuit, but that is not required by code.
