Code for placing electrical wire in attic

Iím rewiring and re-insulating my attic. From a NEC standpoint, what major codes do I have to follow when placing wires across the attic joists?

Can they be stapled onto the top of the joists with fiberglass insulation covering them? Do I need a conduit?

I have a truss roof. Just making sure I place everything correctly.

If the attic is accessible for storage through stairs or a doorway, then all wiring needs to be protected by running alongside the trusses or 2x4 running boards nailed perpendicular on the trusses. If the attic is only accessible by a scuttle hole, then only wiring within 7' of the scuttle needs to be protected. It is generally considered protected if you run it through inaccessible areas like the edge of a hip roof where it would be impossible to walk or crawl.
