Custom garage door opener button

So I'm not too fond of the flimsy little plastic wall mounted door control panel that came with my Chamberlain garage door opener. It's a simple little unit, so I was thinking that it wouldn't be that hard to make my own, more durable control. The door will open and close if you simply touch the two wires together from the "bell wire" and complete the circuit just for a second. Should I be able to mount a simple momentary contact push button in something like a handy box and use that?

The existing control panel has a small LED that is always illuminated, and I'd like to possibly emulate that as well. Is that any more complicated to do? There's 24 volts DC on those bell wires.

You might be able to find a momentary contact switch with a light built in that will work with 24 volts and be able to be mounted in a big ugly rugged manly handy box w/a blank cover!!

A doorbell button will also work.
