wiring for a new stove
The wife purchased a new stove today and had it delivered.
the old stove (double oven) was a three pring plug, all three straight slabs. the new stove is a four prong unit.
what will my options be to get this to work.
will it be just switching out the old outlet to a new four slab one or a new cord. the wiring is a 30 amp circuit,
thanks

Well normally you would change out the cord set on the stove and bond the stove's ground to neutral but stoves normally require at least a 40a circuit so you may need to rewire the receptacle.. What does the stoves instructions say about minimum circuit? What does the name plate say the amps are?

So....it's a 40 amp circuit with 4 wires, Red, Blk, Wht and Grn. That's just what you need with a 4 wire receptacle. You need a 4 wire cord set/plug for the new stove's 3 leads (Blk, Red, Wht) and ground (probably a Grd stud).

It's a three wire cord coming from new stove.
The old socket is a four prong four wire outlet.
I hope I didn't confuse all of you.
So I need to add a four prong cord to the stove
to mate it to the socket.

The procedure to make a change from a 3 to 4 wire or vice versa should be documented in your instruction manual.

where i can buy the manual. so being cheap i went to the company's site and found the installation guide.
a breeze took me 20 mins to do mostly because i didn't feel like
going down stairs for the right wrench.

thanks everyone for the advice.
