simple wiring question

can I run wire from my breaker, to my recessed lights (daisy chain one to another), then to a switch and just connect the white and black wire to the two switch screws? will that circuit work?

Between the lights, you'd need to have a third wire. One to bring the constant hot, another to return the switched hot and of course your neutral.

It's simpler and requires less wire to run from the breaker to the switch, from the switch to the lights. Either way is possible, but when you run to the lights first you necessitate more wires to distinguish constant power from controlled power (so that the lights aren't on all the time).

gotcha. so breaker to switch to lights.

I thought so, I don't know how two little wires can confuse the hell out of me this badly.

I appreciate it.
