can i add an outlet beside the light switch

hi
we have a receptacle with only a light switch, is it possible to have an outlet beside the switch without additional wiring.
we will have the electrian to do it, just wanted to know if possible or not.

Yes or No depending on where the switch located and the location you want to add the recetpale plus what more if you have switch loop in the switch box.

If have switch loop in the switch box then you may not have netural in there at all.

There are few locations they will have very specfic requirement.

Kitchen receptales it must be on 20 amp SABC { small appalince branch circuit }

Bathroom simuair rules { it can go either way depending on how many bathroom are on this circuit.}

A legit electrician will know the excat way what it need to be done.

Explain "we have a receptacle with only a light switch". Do you mean you have a receptacle controlled by a switch and you want to add a second receptacle at the switch?

I am thinking if the OP did have wall switch that contol one of the recepetales if that the case it may be a doable if OP have power feed at the switch box but switch loop no it is not festable unless done some major reconferaging it.
