Power to outlet but light won't work

Hi guys,

So I installed an outlet in my backyard by tapping into the circuit powering the light out there.

The outlet works great, only problem is now the light won't work.

Any thoughts on where to troubleshoot? I double checked all the connections from/to the light and can't find anything amiss.

Describe exactly what you did in every box, every connection and splice.

All I did was pull a plug out of the round box that holds the light, connected the black and the white wires, and wired the outlet to the brick wall below it.

The light has two wires going into it from the switch and I grounded the outlet to its box.

The wiring to the switch is a 3-wire romex going in and the two wires going out to the light.

Sorry if I'm not using the proper terms, very new to this.

Thanks!

Explain what you mean. What are you calling a "plug".
The wiring to the switch is a 3-wire romex
By that do you mean white, red, black and ground? How many wires and what colors connected to switch? Is this a 3-way switch?
