electrical motor hookup
#1
I want to use a GE washing machine motor with a 5 wire plug as a drive motor for a spindle sander. How do I hook the 5 wires up in order to run the motor on a 3 wire 110v cord?

Ge washers use two directional motors. The motor runs one direction for agitation and the motor reverses direction for the spin cycle.
To locate the winding you might want to switch to the appliance section of DIY and ask. Someone may be able to declare colors for you to use. If no help there then your going to have to use a continuity tester to locate the separate windings. Be aware, I believe these type motors have a start winding with a cyntrifical switch involved in the configuration.
Good Luck you got the best I can give you
