I accidently cut through a wire in the attic. I was wondering if I could just splice the wires together. Or would I have to add two new receptacles? Maybe I could run the wire through two junction boxes and cap them off in the attic. I don't want fish a new wire because i would have to cut up the wall. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You accually answered your own question. If the wire is too
short for one j box then you should use 2. Put each end in a box,run a short peice of wire between them, wire nut color to color and put a blank cover on the boxes. Use the same guage wire to make the connection. You need to make sure all
connections including the bare ground are tight.By all means make sure that the circuit is off.
