dryer outlet 3 prong

125/250v outlet power issue

i have a older style 125/250v outlet for a dryer, i just bought a new dryer and went to hook it up and nothing so i cheked the outlet,
when i tested it in the slots i got 240 and when i tried one slot to the l shaped slot i got nothing what could it be and how can i fix it....

when i tried one slot to the l shaped slot i got nothing what could it be and how can i fix it....
Open neutral possibly. Open the receptacle and check. Also check the neutral at the breaker box to see if the screw is loose.

Sometimes it's hard to get the tester probes all the way in to the deep slots, you might have just been missing the prong. If you can do so carefully, test directly off the wires with the receptacle pulled out.

Could you imagine if there would be an open neutral and the motor would go to start
