electrical problem

Three rooms in my house are without power to the electrical plugs. The lights work throughout the house. I have checked the circuit breaker and switched back and forth.

I plan to call my local handyman to pay me a visit. He is not an electrician but is usually pretty good at trouble shooting most household issues.

Any ideas that I could try in the meantime, or advice I can give him when he arrives.

THanks.
Pat

It could be that you lost one leg of your power. If this corresponds to about half the outlet in your house, and if your electric clothes dryer doesn't get as hot as usual, then call your power company.

If you can, tell us the breaker numbers that correspond to the failed outlets. Also tell us what three rooms these are.

specific rooms

John,

THanks for the help. The three rooms in questions are all bathrooms. THe electric plugs do not work. The circuit breaker numbering on my panel does not help me identify specifically which breaker they might be on.

I have several switches labeled "plugs", so I don't know if they are all on the same breaker or not. As you can tell, I am definitely no electrician, hence, I utilize boards like this for help.

I hope this additional info helps. If you need more info, just let me know or include a phone number and I will call you. Thanks.

Since the three rooms are bathrooms, I must reverse my answer. You have a simple GFCI problem. This is 100% sure.

Follow the instructions I gave to "arcadence" in the "electrical weirdness" post. I guarantee that this will work.
