extending 4 gang box

extending 4 gang box

is there a way to extend an existing 4 gang box? i thought i could just put an open back extender on there, but i can't find a 4 gang version.

Is the box metal? Why can't you combine switches and use one over-under switch if you need additional switching. Sure would save on finding a 5 gang box or having to cut into the wall to fit it in.

thanks for the reply (and the welcome). i am trying to extend the depth. a remodel resulted in the box being to deep under the sheetrock to mount the switch plate. i thought i could just put an extension on it, but now am finding there may not be one for a 4 gang.

yes, i was just checking out one of those arlington dbl gangs. probably my best bet?

My goof. My mind was extending the length. I see what you need, and the answers are spot on for correcting the depth problem. Sorry for the oversight.

I think arlington makes a 4-gang extension ring.

Go back and look at the link I provided again, but look closer this time. You want the Arlington AI-BE4 4-gang box extender.

The Arlington BE1 and BE2 can be grouped to get a 4 gang.
