What is the best way to find a good honest electrician?

I want to have my home wiring checked after a lightning strike. I have absolutely no idea how to find someone that will not rip me off. I hate to be so negative, but I have had too many experiences lately with people that are only trying to line their own pockets at my expense. Suggestions?

I would probably look for a small local company, not an individual and look up their references and rating with the BBB. It may not be the overall cheapest option but it also would end up being the most expensive. It will also give you a point of contact for future electrical needs.

I'd suggest calling an electrical supply house mid to late morning and ask them if they could recommend a few smaller contractors who do residential service work.
