How to wire switch with pilot light
Hi, I want to wire a light switch with a pilot light that requires a common wire that will run to a smoke alarm. The purpose of the switch is to kill the smoke alarm temporarily. The switch is needed due to the ceiling height and the silence button cannot be reached. This smoke alarm has no battery backup, so the switch should kill the power to the alarm.
Ordinarily I'd put the switch on the hot (black) wire. But a common (white) wire is required to light the pilot light in the switch. Where the smoke alarm is in the ceiling there are 3 hot (black) wires wire nutted together, 3 common (white) wires wire nutted together, and 3 grounds (bare copper). I don't know how to wire this to the switch and be able to kill the power to the smoke alarm?
Thanks!
