hard wired

I got 2 hard wired smoke alarms 3 years ago and needed just one so the other sat in the celler.
I just had to replae a different room and used the second one of the pair I got. When I put it in it beeped so I pulled the new battery and put it back in. Then it beeped for about 2 times and stopped. it seems quit now.
There is a hard wired one on each of three floors and just this one was beeping. Could it be it had to "settle" in?
It is quiet now but I am asking now so if in about a week or so if the battery was doing the running and it beeps again, what should I be loooking for? Got my fingers crossed.
Thank you

It's probably okay with the new battery installed. As long as it works when you press the TEST button, I would be comfortable with it. Keep in the mind though that you're already 3 years into the 10 year lifespan of the detector so it will need replacement in 7 years.
