Doorbell replacement question
I attempted to replace the exterior doorbell and since the new one would not fit the old space I had to drill out a larger area and the wires, which I had already attached, caught on the drill bit and ripped out.
When I disconnected everything and continued to drill, I noticed the drill bit made the chime sound but when I got the bigger hole made, I could not locate the wires inside the door frame.
I guess my question is: are there wires in the door frame that I can locate?

I had a similar problem rather than remove the door trim I replaced the hardwired chime with a wireless. Twenty bucks and 10 minutes and I was done.
One warning though. The first chime I bought was subject to occasional ringing - sometimes at 2 AM. It had dip switches that were supposed to prevent that but they didn't. The second one I bought has been problem free for years.

I think that's the route I will be taking. It should be a lot easier than removing the entire trim piece, or sawing through the wood and replacing it, caulking, painting etc.
thank you
