U.K. Old house light switch issues help!!

We recently bought a 1850`s bungalow with non earthed lighting. In our bedroom the light is coming on in either position. Guessed it might of been the switch itself so just replaced it. worked perfectly for approx 15 seconds then came on again in the off position starting dim them getting brighter until at near max lumination. Any ideas please guys???

Welcome to the forums! I know absolutely nothing about your electrical system, but you may want to check your connections at the switch, as that seems to be the culprit area. If your switches use push back connectors like some of ours do, remove the wires to the screw heads for a tighter connection. Some of our guys are more into your system, and will be along shortly, so hang in there.
