Hard to follow you, but if you are daisychaining a set of receptacles, the Black (hot) wires will be attached to the gold colored screws, and the white (neutral) wires will be connected to the silver screws. There is no top and bottom to the receptacle. The gold screws are on one side of the receptacle and the silver ones along with the green grounding screw are on the other side. And you don't "plug" them in. Use the screws provided. Stab back connections are not safe and cause problems down the road.

Receptacles have no top or bottom. As chandler said put the black to brass, white to silver, and bare to green.

The holes in back are sometimes less reliable so don't use them.

All ground wires are connected together and if the box is metal pigtailed to the box. If you have no ground on the originating circuit it can't be extended.
