Decommission one side of a MW branch circuit?
OK folks, I'm back for more.
I've got an old house with old wiring and a bunch of multi-wire branch circuits and I've realized that for a couple of them, one side of the branch is inactive (not hooked up to anything).
Is there a code-sanctioned way to decommission one side of a MWBC?
Should I just connect the inactive "hot" wire to the ground at the main panel? Should I tie it to the hot wire on the other side of the branch circuit?
Re-wiring with new 2-conductor romex is not really an option due to finished walls/ceilings.
Thanks!

I would just remove the hot from the breaker and cap.
It seems strange that one circuit would not be used.

Thanks, pcboss - makes sense.
According to the breaker labels, the unused circuits are an old laundry circuit which was replaced because it didn't have a ground wire, and a circuit that was used in the kitchen before it was remodeled. My guess is that the folks that worked on them didn't bother to check what else was on the same circuit. The circuits in this house are a mess - I found one 15A breaker that has 14 lights and 13 outlets on it
