UF wire installation question

I am needing to replace what I believe is called a UF direct burial wire for a curtain drain pump on my property. I'm wondering if I should just direct bury the new wire or put it into a conduit to protect it. It will be a 220 ft. long wire so I really want to install it the best way so it will last. I'm not sure exactly went wrong with the last UF wire but it wasn't put into conduit.

If you are going to go to the trouble of installing conduit then use individual conductors with type THWN (or THHN/THWN) insulation. Pulling UF through conduit is anywhere from difficult to almost impossible.
