Clothes Dryier and Washing Machine on the same "double" outlet

Hi, I discovered in my house the Washing Machine and the Clothes Dryer are connected to the same "double" outlet that is connected to the (nearby) panel with a 20A breaker. Is this solution up to code, and even if it is, should I improve it?

What you have is standard practice and no need to change. Total amps used is probably less the half the circuit's capacity.

Assumes gas dryer.
