Air compressor 240v/1ph/11.7amp

I recently received a 240v/1phase/11.7amp vertical compressor as a gift and I am wanting to hard wire it to my panel in my garage. I will be using about 5 feet of armored wire to my screw-in-type fuse panel. Can someone tell me what size wire and fuse to use for this application? I would also like to know what size circuit breaker to use for this since I am wanting to upgrade the panel in the near future. Thanks!

Welcome to the forums! Compressors have a pretty heavy start up load, and although a 15 amp service to the compressor would work, I would recommend a 20 amp double fuse/breaker and 12 gauge THHN inside the armor. You can probably find a 3 wire plus ground whip of armor or raintite already loaded with 12 gauge. That would be my choice rather than trying to fish the wires in the armor.

Thanks alot! I am glad I asked since I was going to use a 15amp. I am taking it that a dual element time delay is what you are talking about (fuse wise). Thanks for all your help.

Yes. Is would be the correct fuse for your compressor.
