florescent burning out

I have a hanging light that hold three bulbs. I have replaced the standard bulbs with florescent bulbs. They tend to flicker often and burn out quickly. So I removed the fixture and rewired it completely, thinking that could be the issue. No go! They still flicker and burn out fairly fast. The wall switch is a dimmer type and I am ready to replace it next. ( though we keep it fully turned on )
Any ideas why?

Probably the dimmer. You could replace it with a fluorescent-compatible dimmer or a regular switch. The only other thought I have is reversed polarity, but that shouldn't be the case here since you rewired the fixture.

As a general rule, CFLs don't like dimmers.

The dimmer is the issue. Fluorescent lights also do not play well with lighted toggle switches or motion sensor switches.

Glad you solved it. And thanks for coming back to tell us how it worked out.
