GFCI Dead

I recently had a GFCI go out, won't reset. There was a power surge that knocked out my computer's Power Supply. Can a power surge knock out a GFCI? It's the SmartLock Pro Type.

Thanks

Yes. It is like any electronic device it can be damaged by a power surge. If you have opened the GFCI and determined there are no loose connections and determined there is power to the line side using a meter or test light or solenoid tester but not a non contact tester go ahead and replace it.

I'll replace it. I figured it was the electronics gone bad. This was a bad power surge we had and I'm lucky more stuff wasn't damaged.

Thanks

How do you know you had a power surge? Are you using a recording meter?

I'm not sure there was a surge, I just assumed
What happened was we lost power and then when it was restored, it went on and off about four times quickly, so I figured that wasn't good. It did blow out my computers power supply, or another coincidence.

Thanks

It's possible you could have had some surges and most likely did. You are probably a good candidate for a whole house surge suppression device.
