Bakrr: Meaning of 3 Wire

3 wire 120v to a single 20 amp breaker
3 wire would indicate 240v with a neutral wouldn't it?

3-wire could indicate many things including 120 volt as the OP said. 240 volt doesn't have a neutral.

Depends on who you are talking to! If you are talking to me, then this is how I see it.
3-wire in the field means 120/240. So: 3 wire=4 conductors>>>> two hots, one neutral, and one equipment ground. If you want a straight 240v, then you would have to be specific. The normal ordering of cable=14-3NMB/12-3NMB/ETC. ETC..

The thread where this appeared is gone, must have been deleted. That being said, as I recall, the context of the 3-wire stated by the OP was a 3-wire cord, SJT I believe it was. The green grounding conductor is counted when referring to cords such as this. Hence, a 12-3 SJ cord would have 1 blk, 1 Wht and 1 Grn conductor.

Not gone but this was removed from it because it was non-beneficial and perhaps confusing within the context of the original thread http://www.doityourself.com/forum/el...ub-wiring.html.

It is a Morgan Spa and the wiring scheme advises that it is a 120v (3 wire) cord connected to a 20 amp breaker
Well, I did remember the cord part correctly, but not sure now why I thought it was an SJT cord.
