Illegal, Or Just Questionable Pool Wiring?
Hello,
I started to redo the pool on the house I bought last year, and am installing a control system with a built in subpanel. After disconnecting everything that was there, I ran into something unusual.
Here is the setup
There are two breakers that feed the pool area. One is 120V 20A (hot+neutral+ground) and the other 220V 20A (2 hot + ground). They are both run in the same conduit.
My questions are,
1. Can you run two circuits in the same conduit (underground and outside)?
2. Can you ground two circuits together outside of a main breaker? They would both be grounded in the subpanel.

My suggestion would be to abandon the 120v feed and install a 120v breaker in the new subpanel. That would avoid the question of two feeds to the same location assuming the 120 feed is to the pool.

The both go to the pool area. The 120V feeds a gas fired heater, some LED lights, and a few outlets in the area.
I was thinking that terminating the 120 would be cleaner. If I do that, the circuit breaker has the GFI, so I should replace the GFI outlet with a standard outlet, right?
