Unhappy

I have three rooms in my house that have no ceiling lights. In each, however, there is a double wall outlet that has one outlet controlled by the switch. How can I re-wire to add a celing light controlled by the switch and still have the double outlets operating normally?

Fish a 12/2 wire from the switch receptacle to the ceiling light box. Connect the white wire of that fished wire to the white wires in the receptacle. Connect the black wire of the fished wire to the black wire origianally connected to the switched part of the receptacle at the brass screw located on the end of the receptacle thst is origanally switched.

Now if you want the one half receptacle to remain switched just connect a pigtail to the wire nut you connected the fished black wire to the switched black wire and connect that pigtail back to the original brass screw.

If you want to make the whole receptacle hot all the time then just replace the receptacle without removing the tabs between the two brass screws.

Good Luck
