Question

I'm attempting to install a new ceiling light and have a very novice question. The fixture we purchase does not have the basic wire coloring (black, white, etc). There are instead 2 black wires - how do I tell which to connect to the hot wire in the ceiling and which to the nuetral?

Sometimes you will find one wire copper colored and another silver colored. The silver would go to the white grounded conductor [aka neutral]

Sometimes there is a ribb running the length of one of the wires. This would be the wire connecting to the white grounded [aka neutral]
