12 volt clock

I have a 12 volt clock that keeps resetting to 12 o'clock. I have the black wire on ground, the red wire straight to the battery, and the yellow wire to the key. if i switch the red and yellow wires it does the same. How do i fix it to stay on time, but go out when I turn the key off?

Normally the yellow is the constant power source, I least that's what I've found, so I would think you have tried all the things you can. If it's a used item...maybe that's why someone got rid of it.

Did it come out of a vehicle? Do you know the make and model?
