light switch controls evrything. need help

hello new to this forum, wondring if someone can help me? I have a house that was built in 2008, and I live in Ontario, Canada. The 1 room that I am trying to figure out is killing me. When the light switch is turned off, there is power to the wall receptacles (4 in all) but they all read OPEN HOT. But when the light switch is on, there is no power to the receptacles at all, but the light on the ceiling is on. Sounds confusing. Also, I went to plug a tv in the same room, turned on the light switch and it started to flicker every 10 secs. I would love to solve any of this. Bye the way, I'm a novice when it comes to electrical.
Thanks

Tel us how many 2-conductor cables (black, white) and how many 3-conductor cables (black, red, white) in each receptacle box and at the switch and the wiring at each box. Does the switch have on/off on it.

And....how do you know there is power to the wall receptacles? Where are you seeing a reading of "Open Hot"?

But when the light switch is on, there is no power to the receptacles at all, but the light on the ceiling is on.
And....how do you know there is no power to the receptacles?

Plug in tester I'm sure. Sounds like you've lost the hot feed and are reading through the neutral. Check all outlets and switches on that circuit for a loose or broken hot wire. I would bet that it is in the switch or the next outlet down the line. Good luck
