What about a different amperage on 12v adapter?

I need to use an adapter for my wifes excercise bike until we get the original one mailed back to us. it is for a horizon recumbant bike. the original is a 12v 2amp. If I am going to use another temporarily can I use one that has a little hight amp output or maybe a little lower? What would happen if it is not an exact match? What are my options? thanks

A little higher then original is better. Lower then original you may burnout the power supply or the equipment may not have the power to work.
